Where everyone is an athlete…

An introductory workout suitable for most individuals

Hello again to all of you,

So my last post mentioned the work I have been doing with the kick boxers at the SKF Crawley Cashman’s Martial Arts Centre of Excellence Dojo.

Basically, I have been inducting these fighters into the strength & conditioning area of the facility by taking them through a basic workout showing them both progressions and regressions of each exercise.

Generally, the fighters had little or no experience using any form of resistance training equipment. So this allowed me to chose some basic fundamental movement exercises programmed in the same way I would for an experienced fighter.

The workout consists of six exercises demonstrating a squat, a split squat/lunge, a push, a pull, a pivot and a brace movement.

The videos below from my YouTube channel and The Training Pod’s demonstrate the basics of each exercise. They can either be progressed through increasing intensity in the form of load, resistance, time under tension (TUT) or changing some of them from being bilateral to unilateral. Needless to say, they can be regressed in the opposite way.

Have a go at this workout and let me know what you think via my Twitter and/or Facebook.

All the best,

Joe.

P.S Thank you to the great demonstrations by WAKO GB Kickboxer Sean McCarthy who will be competing at the European Championships in November.
